CCM Secretary General Dr Emanuel Nchimbi has appealed to the Minister for Works Innocent Bashungwa to release 1.4bn/- in compensation to residents to pave the way for the continuation of the stalled Kibondo-Malamba Road.
Speaking at a public rally in Kibondo District, Kigoma Region yesterday, Dr Nchimbi emphasized the road's significance for regional development.
Dr Florence Samizi (MP) noted that while the contractor was on-site, work could not proceed because residents had not yet been compensated.
Dr Nchimbi reported that approximately 11.4 trillion/- had been allocated to Kigoma over the past three years for development projects, including port expansion on Lake Tanganyika.
Addressing concerns about low cassava prices, CCM Secretary for Political and International Relations Rabia Abdallah Himid assured residents that the government was working to secure markets for farmers.
Residents said that despite a bumper cassava harvest, poor infrastructure hindered market access.
Himid explained that the government was constructing railways to enhance transportation and facilitate trade with neighboring Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Earlier, Deputy Minister in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Zainab Katimba announced that efforts were underway to complete Kakonko bus terminal.
Dr Nchimbi directed that funds allocated for this project be utilized promptly to ensure its completion on time.
