The academic camp, organized by the African Olympiad Academy (AOA) in partnership with MIT–Africa, aims to prepare gifted students from across the continent for the prestigious Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) - scheduled to take place in June this year.
In a statement issued to the media, Yas Chief Regulatory Officer, Ms. Sylvia Balwire, emphasized that the sponsorship forms part of the company’s broader strategic commitment to advancing education, innovation, and technology in Tanzania.
“This initiative underscores our long-standing dedication to promoting education and shaping the next generation of researchers, innovators, and technology leaders. Mathematics is the engine of the digital economy, driving innovation and modern-day problem solving. By supporting these students, we are making a direct investment in the future of our nation,” said Ms. Balwire.
She further congratulated all the selected students, noting that their nomination reflects exceptional capability, discipline, and determination in the field of mathematics.
AOA Executive Director, Arun Shanmuganathan, expressed his delight that the Tanzanian students could join brilliant students from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Nigeria already studying at AOA, a specialized Olympiad-focused school.
MIT-Africa Managing Director, Ari Jacobovits, highlighted the immense potential of these students as the reason for MIT to invest deeply in their development, wherever their future takes them.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Tanzania Mathematical Association of Tanzania (MAT/CHAHITA), Dr. Said Sima, extended his appreciation to Yas for its continued efforts in nurturing youth talent and advancing the mathematics discipline within the country.
The 10 students, who have already departed for Rwanda for this crucial academic and competitive preparation, come from different regions of Tanzania representing different schools including Ilboru Arusha, St. Francis Mbeya, Feza, Marian, Mahina, St, Monica Arusha and Mbeya Secondary.
